How Clean Is Your Pool Filter?
Written by Southsidepool / Posted on 20 April 2020
A swimming pool is synonymous with the Australian summers. It’s so much more than just a place to cool-off. So we all want our pool water to be clear and clean. Not only do we enjoy that experience, but we’re also less likely to have fearful thoughts about chemicals, germs, or falling sick. And it’s only a clean pool filter that helps in maintaining healthy and sanitary pool conditions. But how clean are your filters? Moreover, why are they even necessary?
Importance of pool filters
Filters are a vital piece of equipment in your swimming pool. Without these, your pool can turn into a mess. Filters make it possible for you to swim in crystal clear water. When you’re in the pool, a lot of water is absorbed through the skin; therefore, it’s crucial to have a functional filtration system.
Filters are designed to remove unwanted dirt, debris, calcium buildup, biological fluids and other harmful substances from the pools. Since you’d not want your pool to become a breeding ground for diseases, keeping the filtration system functional and clean is the key to a healthy pool environment.
The need for having clean pool filters
Filters usually don’t have the mechanism to clean themselves, so someone has to physically remove the gunk trapped in the filter. So, why the need to have your filters cleaned? It is for the following few reasons that having clean pool filters is what we suggest:
- Helps maintain a clean and healthy water environment
- Keeps the pool water free from bacteria and dirt
- Reduces the stress on pool equipment
- Distributes the pool chemicals better
- Increases energy efficiency
- Extends the life of your pool and the filtration system
At Southside Pool Services, we offer two popular types of pool filters – sand filters and cartridge filters. These are high-quality Astral Pool filters that are world-famous for their ease of use and dependability.
Sand filters are the easiest to maintain. These don’t have to be dismantled, opened up and they work by backwashing to remove the dirt inside the filter, filtering particles down to 20 microns. Then we have cartridge filters, these are simple to use, relatively inexpensive and are an excellent choice for small pools or pools in confined spaces. These do require a little more maintenance as they do require manual rinsing.
Do you know how clean your pool filters are?
Unless you’re really handy with DIY, you’ll need expert help. Because, if the filters are dirty and not regularly taken care of, they don’t function properly and start affecting the pool’s condition as well. If you notice the water is losing its clarity and is getting dirty or cloudy, it’s the first and foremost sign to know your filters are not clean. You may also find sand or fur-like deposits in the pool, which means it’s time to get the filters checked, serviced or replaced.
Keeping your pool filters clean helps the system to run efficiently, helping you save more money, time, and energy. Moreover, the longer it’s maintained, the more you can focus on enjoying your pool time.
